Kannur: A parish priest in Kannur was slapped with a police case Monday after a woman complained that her minor daughter was raped by him.
The girl is reported to have told the police that the priest had sexually abused her repeatedly in the Church.
After Sunday Mass, Father Robin moved to Kochi in an attempt to fly to Canada.
The Church-run Christu Raj Hospital at Koothuparamba in Kannur, where the girl delivered the child, said she was admitted on February 7.
"And when someone like that becomes an accused, the charges will be very strong", the police official added.
Iran holds massive naval drill
The event comes amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran as President Donald Trump vowed to get tough with Tehran. The state broadcaster also showed footage of Iranian warships and helicopters taking part in the exercise.
Since the case is registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso), he is not likely to get bail before six months.
The crime came to light after the intervention by Childline volunteers who received an anonymous call. The priest was said to be the manager of a school near Kottiyoor, Kannur where the girl was a student.
Reports said the minor's father had claimed to have committed the crime after being offered a huge amount of money.
"We are also checking if the church-run Christuraj hospital near Thalassery where the minor delivered a baby almost a month ago had duly informed the authority of the childbirth".
On Tuesday, the priest was taken to the parsonage for collection of evidence. The newborn was shifted to a private orphanage in Vythiri in the nearby Wayanad district.
