Beauty And The Beast, a remake of the 1991 animation, is now on track to open in the United Kingdom with a three-day haul of £18.4 million, making it the highest grossing three-day opening weekend for a PG movie ever.

The domestic total exceeded what people in the industry had expected, and it broke the record for the biggest box office opening in March.

"You see all the colours of the character, from the lovable rogue to the buffoon to the jealous, revengeful sort of monster that he becomes by the end of the movie", says Evans. It's also the best opening weekend of 2017 so far.

In the United Kingdom and Ireland it also delivered the biggest Disney live-action opening of all time, the biggest March opening weekend of all time and the number one opening of 2017 to date.

Scotland's Sturgeon to urges UK's May to think again on independence vote
Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's plans for a second independence referendum were rejected by May. The bill was passed Monday by Parliament but needed royal assent to become a law.

According to studio estimates, it blew past Finding Dory, which was the previous record-holder for G- or PG-rated releases after it debuted with $135 million (£108m) a year ago.

IMAX had a fairy tale weekend at the box office as Beauty and the Beast waltzed its way to a record-setting $21 million on 1,026 IMAX screens worldwide in 56 markets, including $12.5 million on 377 North American IMAX screens and $8.5 million from 649 IMAX screens internationally.

The actress is actively seeking the role of Ariel in the live-action remake, and in an online plea to studio bosses last month, the "Mean Girls" star suggested Condon should direct her.

In other highlights, this is the top March opening ever in several territories, including the UK, Germany and Mexico.
