Comedian Dan Aykroyd, who was briefly engaged to Fisher in the 1970s before she Wednesday singer Paul Simon, and actor Griffin Dunne, her close friend, paid tribute to the actress best known as Star Wars' Princess Leia at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, where the pair are interred in a joint grave. Some of the other stars in attendance included comedian Dan Akroyd and actress Ruta Lee.
The memorial will feature Star Wars composer John Williams' music as well as the debut of a new song by James Blunt, a close friend of Fisher's; the actress was the godmother to Blunt's child, and Blunt recorded his Back to Bedlam at Fisher's home.
Today's public memorial was organized by Todd Fisher (Reynolds' son, Fisher's brother), and was livestreamed on Reynolds' official website.
Aykroyd, who was briefly engaged to Fisher decades ago, before she Wednesday singer-songwriter Paul Simon, brought a bit of humor to the service. Dan shared that even though they never ended up exchanging vows, they did get their blood tests done.
"[Carrie] was always my princess", Todd added. Film clips from the careers of both Reynolds and Fisher were shown. We've seen her, but we didn't know her. "I'm going to start to cry - she really meant a lot to us". Fisher struggled with addiction and mental illness, which she candidly described in books and interviews. Everyone's favorite space robot "wept" until Todd Fisher knelt down to comfort him.
The 64-year-old made the revelation while paying tribute to the late Star Wars actress at a joint memorial service held for her and mother Debbie Reynolds.

Eventually, she and her friends turn the viewing into a drinking game, taking a shot every time someone says "Norman". The first episode ends with Marion driving toward the Bates Motel as the dark, gloomy weather sets in.
He said: "The public is invited because that's how my mother would want it". "If I'd been with our beloved showboat, I might have been able to save her again". "It ripped my heart out".

At the end of the montage, a working R2-D2 unit mournfully beeped at a picture of Fisher and at an empty director's chair with her name on it. And then she did.
