Microsoft sued by PC users over Windows 10 upgrade

Posted March 30, 2017

As has been rumored for the past few weeks, Microsoft will begin rolling out to customers worldwide the Windows 10 Creators Update, a k a 1703 (as in March 2017) starting April 11.

Announced at the company's fall Windows 10 event in New York City a year ago, the update brings a number of changes, both big and small, to Microsoft's ubiquitous operating system.

Microsoft is being sued by over 100 PC users for more than $5 million over the Windows 10 upgrade which they opted for due to the company's aggressive marketing practices. The new Paint 3D app embedded inside the Paint app makes it easy to create or modify 3D objects.

The Windows 10 Creators Update adds plenty of cool stuff including the exciting-as-it-sounds Paint 3D - yup, the classic creative tool has had a major overhaul and it's really rather splendid.

We had reported earlier that Microsoft is planning to launch a new Windows 10 Mobile by the end of this year. As the name implies, the Creators Update includes new tools for people who make and consume media on their PCs, including a new Paint3D app that updates Microsoft's classic drawing tool to create three-dimensional models.

You must know that the Update Assistants downloaded for the Anniversary Update won't work for the Creators Update. There is also the new Device Health Advisor which, according to Mr Medhi, "gives you information on the vital signs of your device, and new settings give you more control over app installation". It's all easily done and you can even drag your drawing into reality with the help of a 3D printer, if you just happen to have one of those lying around. You can still happily use Paint for 2D doodlings as well. Microsoft hasn't discussed a public release date for that yet, though, which means the Creator's update will have to tide us over until then.

Support for other features is still in its fledgling stages, but extensions are making their way into the browser, which is good news for users potentially looking to lose Chrome or Firefox. Microsoft heard you loud and clear when you said you didn't want updates shoved down your throat - so even as the company puts finishing touches on a long list of improvements to its operating system, it's prepping a slow, measured rollout instead. For more experienced users, they'll also be able to clean install Windows 10 with the Creators Update intact if they choose to install it with the ISO files.

The Creators Update has added live broadcasting, after Microsoft bought out its Twitch-like service Beam. Also it's unclear if your progress, bookmarks and settings will carry across between multiple Windows devices. But you shouldn't expect to automatically find the free update on your computer the very same day.
