Rashford scores victor but Man United suffer Ibrahimovic blow

England manager Gareth Southgate will hold talks with Jose Mourinho over Marcus Rashford's global status after the Manchester United manager said it "doesn't make a lot of sense" for the striker to travel to this summer's European Under-21 Championships in Poland.

"I don't think they are easy injuries, but I prefer to wait for all the tests to be done tomorrow". The teenager spared manager Jose Mourinho's blushes after a miscalculated selection gamble against Anderlecht, and now may have to carry the club to Europa League glory because Zlatan Ibrahimovic has suffered a worrisome injury.

Yet Mourinho said: "We have Daley Blind, and it is time for Jones and Smalling to be courageous, to risk, because for the team you have the do everything".

"We're in trouble. In this moment, Eric Bailly played six matches in a row, and we lost Marcos Rojo, we don't have (Phil) Jones or (Chris) Smalling".

Mourinho said both players would be able to come back sooner than anticipated if they put their minds to it.

Daley Blind took over from Rojo, but Mourinho has fewer options in central defence, with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones both now sidelined.

When again he was asked, if the initial diagnosis was honestly positive, Mourinho added: "Fairly negative".

Mourinho compared the situation to Rashford being selected for United's under-23 team to win "say a derby against Manchester City".

"It is hard for the kid to play every match, but I always trust the players with special mentalities", the United boss said.

In the 32nd minute, Youri Tielemans had a strike deflected onto the crossbar which fell to Sofiane Hanni who sent it past Sergio Romero.

United advanced 3-2 on aggregate to join Lyon, Ajax and Celta Vigo in the last four, after a tension-filled night of quarterfinal second legs in Europe's second-tier continental club competition.

NAIJ.com can report that Henrik Mkhitaryan opened scoring for Manchester United in the 10th minute after being set up by Frenchman Paul Pogba.

After Ibrahimovic wasted two great chances in the final stages of normal time, the contest went into extra time and Rashford settled the tie with a fine finish early in the second period.
