All talk, few trades before NHL's expansion roster freeze

Now, if the team decides to get Fleury, who is a three-time Stanley Cup champion, they can use his knowledge and skill to teach the young goal keepers in their roster.

Zdeno Chara: The lone B's defenseman with a no-movement clause, the Bruins are not letting their captain walk for nothing. As for the rest of the team, the pickings are a little slimmer.

Leading the Golden Knights' draft is general manager George McPhee, who spent 17 seasons in charge of the Washington Capitals, helping that club rise to prominence.

All 30 existing rosters will freeze beginning at this time.

The Central Registry will accept these at the same time so that there's no amusing business around leaks or anything. Theyre not quite sure.

McPhee told reporters Sunday that "there were no surprises" when the Golden Knights received the lists and that he was "really pleased with what's available".

McPhee said the Golden Knights will truly be built by way of the entry draft, not the expansion draft, so that might indicate a plan to pick a team that might struggle from puck drop in October compared to what he could've picked if the return is strong enough.

The only question now seems to be who McPhee is going to pick when the draft comes Wednesday, and how the Rangers are going to deal with it.

But for now it's all about mock drafts, the looming expansion draft and the NHL Awards Show that absolutely nobody is talking about with the Vegas expansion extravaganza set to overshadow the whole thing. Marchessault is a free agent after this coming season.

The San Jose Sharks are a team in transition as they have gone as far as possible in the playoffs with this group of players.

Thompson grabs the lead at Meijer
Play will resume Sunday morning at 8:09 a.m. with the final pairings taking the course at 10:10 a.m. The rains came in at Blythefield Country Club pushing the 3rd round tee times back two hour.

The other 30 NHL franchises must submit their lists of protected players (names that won't be exposed to the expansion draft) to the league by 5 p.m. ET on Saturday. He'll be the protected goalie, putting Cam Ward and Eddie Lack on the expansion list.

The team is still looking to acquire available veteran prospects in the league.

Who do the Canes protect?

Several general managers, including Arizona's John Chayka on Saturday, noted how the Golden Knights can corner the goalie market and use those assets as trade bait. If he somehow not taken by them, Fleury will probably be traded later in the offseason anyways. if Fleury doesn't get taken, look for maybe Scott Wilson, Olli Maatta, or Ian Cole to be taken by Las Vegas.

It will be a sorrowful moment for the player, team and fans to see Fleury's 14 year association with the Penguins come to an end, but in a bittersweet way it's a blessing in disguise for the Pens.

"It doesn't take a very intelligent human being to understand our situation", Fletcher said.

The NHL players association executive were meeting late Friday to discuss how much of the escalator theyd inject into the 2017-18 salary cap.

Vegas will need to select at least one player from each team during the draft process.

"The players Vegas drafts, not all of them are going to play for Vegas".
