Trump's business ties in Persian Gulf raise questions about his allegiances

The Office of the former president in a statement said the Ambassador of Egypt and Charge d'Affaires of the Kingdom of Saudi met with Hamid Karzai to discuss the issue surrounding the sanctions imposed on Qatar.

An Iranian fisherman was shot and killed Saturday by the Saudi coastguard which accused him of entering Saudi waters, Iran's interior ministry said, fuelling tensions between the regional rivals.

There was no immediate reaction from Saudi Arabia.

DUBAI, June 18 Qatar will not cut off gas to the United Arab Emirates despite a diplomatic dispute and a "force majeure" clause, the chief executive of Qatar Petroleum told Al Jazeera network.

Qatar denies the accusations, describing the move to isolate it diplomatically as "unjustified".

In May, Trump sealed a $110 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia on his maiden foreign trip as the USA president. However, there was no military component to action against Qatar, the envoy added.

Some wonder whether all this pressure on Qatar might backfire, driving the country into an alliance with Russia, Turkey and Iran - one with very different objectives from the U.S.

Bloomberg reports that the $12-billion deal was signed by Qatari defence minister Khalid Al-Attiyah and his United States counterpart, Jim Mattis in Washington on Wednesday. "We ask Qatar, and other nations in the region to do more and do it faster".
