Live Crew Founding Member Fresh Kid Ice Dead at 53

Many have taken to social media to pay tribute to Ice, with rapper Rick Ross writing, "Just got call we lost 2 Live crew legend Fresh Kid Ice this morning!"

Rapper Christopher "Fresh Kid Ice" Wong Won has passed away. They obtained even greater fame and notoriety in the 1980s as their album, As Nasty As They Wanna Be, was the first to be labeled legally obscene by the federal government.

After forming the group and realizing their success, the group later joined Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell's record label and brought him into the fold.

In fact, Fresh Kid and Campbell, aka Uncle Luke, were arrested in 1990 after a live performance that city officials and police deemed obscene and lewd.

He co-founded 2 Live Crew with DJ Mr. Mixx (David Hobbs) and Amazing Vee (Yuri Vielot) while still living in California but they relocated to Florida when their 1984 debut single "The Revelation" became a surprise hit there. The group released their eighth and last studio album in 1998.

Before getting into music, Fresh Kid served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. On Instagram, the rap artist also shared an image of Fresh Kid smiling with the same mournful caption.

Fresh Kid Ice, who was also known as The Chinaman, was the culture's first Asian and Trinidadian rapper.

The founding member of 2 Live Crew passed away in Miami, reports TMZ.

'The Asians were there in the beginning of hip-hop - but as DJs, ' he said.

'A lot of people see us as being passive, but sometimes being passive means that you're learning.

Fresh Kid Ice suffered strokes in 2008 and 2010.
