DOOM 6.66 Update Makes Season Pass DLC Free and Revises Multiplayer Progression

Posted July 20, 2017

The update is numbered 6.66, keeping to the Doom theme, and aims to rework much of the game's multiplayer portion, as well as completely remove the season pass. That's on top of the modes and features, like bot support, that players have been enjoying since late previous year. Doom is here with update 6.66, and developers made a decision to let everyone know there's never been a better time to play.

Revised Progression System - The revised progression system will alter when and how players unlock additional guns, demons, equipment, and all of the player and weapon customization options. For example, if there's a specific helmet you want right now, you can work towards unlocking it by focusing your play style on the requirement.

There will be no more random unlock system for this new update because it has been revised and improved for the multiplayer. Unlock the Hack Modules, Runes do not need to be activated and do not expire. Similar to its campaign, multiplayer Runes are persistent player abilities earned and included in a player loadout.

Enhanced Kill Notifications - The death screen is getting an overhaul as well, now calling out how you were killed, not just who killed you.

Palestinian worshippers hurt in clash with Israeli police in Jerusalem
Jerusalem police commissioner Yoram Halevi said on the Israel Radio that Jerusalem is now quiet, and defended security checks. Proposals to change security measures at the compound have sparked controversy in the past.

The next Doom update is straight from the bowels of Hell, if Hell is in fact a place where you get loads of nice stuff for free.

Yes, Update 6.66 resets all players' multiplayer level back to 0. That's great for all the present DOOM owners who were hesitant to pick the season pass up, and those who plan on buying DOOM in the future. Because it is only your level, this does not affect your existing items and weapons. Xbox One and PC gamers can play DOOM for free for a few days starting on July 20, while PS4 gamers will get their free weekend starting on July 27.

Update: According to players, the update is 35GB on PC and 58GB on Xbox One. The free event will give players access to the game's first two campaign missions, as well as complete access to the multiplayer and SnapMap modes.

During the Free Weekend, which ends on July 30 at 9pm PT, digital copies of Doom will be discounted to $14.99 USD/£11.99. During this free weekend, the entire game will be available for $14.99 USA, including the campaign, arcade mode, and all that DLC and multiplayer content.
