Belgium treating knife attack in Brussels as terrorist case

Soldiers in Brussels shot and killed a man on Friday who attacked them with a machete in what appears to be an Islamic terrorist attack. In Brussels, one soldier was wounded in the face and another suffered a hand injury before the suspect was shot, the BBC reported.

The attack on Friday is being treated as a terrorist incident, the prosecutor's office said.

Soliders fired at the man, who died after being transported to a hospital. It is the task of the soldiers and police to protect citizens and institutions.

Crisis Center Belgium said in a media release that there is a continuous follow-up after the terrorist act.

In June this year, Belgian police said they had "neutralized" a suspect with gunfire after an explosion took place near him in Brussels' central train station.

An eyewitness in the London attack, Kiana Williamson, said she saw police officers trying to wrestle a man out of a auto that had stopped near the palace, one of the city's main tourist attractions and the London home of Queen Elizabeth 11.
