Girls Basketball season comes to close after second round playoff loss to Marian

After an impressive performance in the first round of districts, Seaholm was unable to move on from their second round game with Marian, losing 76-32. Marian’s defensive pressure and offensive skill were too much for the Maples to handle in the defeat.

Seaholm couldn’t get anything going on offense as Marian continuously applied smuggling defense and occasionally a full-court press. On the other end of the court, Marian was able to move the ball around rather easily and get open looks. Seaholm also struggled on the boards, giving up many offensive rebounds that turned into second chance points.

“Their defense was really good,” said senior Emily Vincent. “They trapped us and we couldn’t really get the ball up the court,”

The Maples were led by Paige Neuenfeldt, who scored 12 points. Paige Sienkiwicz added 9 and Katti Karkkainen had 6.

Seaholm’s impressive season comes to a close after the loss. Marian will move on to face Groves in the District championship on Friday March 5th.

“I enjoyed the game,” said senior Lisa Bender, “we don’t usually get a chance to play such competitive teams in our league. They had a really solid team; they have 15 girls that could all be starters.”
